Superman's alter ego is Clark Kent, a reporter who was raised in Smallville after arriving on Earth from the planet Krypton. He protects the fictional city of Metropolis, which was originally inspired in part by Cleveland's skyline through Joe Shuster's artwork, while its modern appearance and character are widely associated with New York City.
