The character was created in Cleveland, Ohio, at American Greetings in the late 1970s, where she began as a greeting card design before growing into a popular toy, television, and publishing franchise. 

The original visual design of Strawberry Shortcake was created by Muriel Fahrion, a Cleveland-born artist working for American Greetings. Fahrion developed the character's iconic look in 1977, while her sister, Susan Trentel, crafted the first Strawberry Shortcake doll based on that artwork. The character was further developed by the creative team at Those Characters From Cleveland (TCFC), American Greetings' licensing and design division. 

Today, Strawberry Shortcake remains a beloved symbol of kindness, optimism, and community, with roots that trace back to the creativity and imagination of her Cleveland, Ohio creators.
