Ohio in the Civil War (VHS) Description
|
Ohio in the Civil War By the Ohio Historical Society
Virtually all Ohioans were touched by the Civil War in 1861-64. With more than 300,000 soldiers enlisted, Ohio was surpassed only by the state of New York in the number of soldiers participating, and also by the numbers of homes disrupted by the difficulties of war.
This video brings the Civil War and its far-reaching impact to life, illustrating the forces that forever changed the lives of individuals on the battlefield and at home. The challenges young soldiers faced; women's changing roles in keeping home, farm, and factory running; and the support that more than 5,000 free blacks from Ohio offered to the war effort are chronicled in this fast-paced presentation.
Ohio in the Civil War uses authentic 1860s-era photographs, drawings, and music to illustrate the times. Readings from famous period orations, as well as lifelike reenactments of Civil War soldiers help viewers of all ages vividly picture the past.
Appropriate for ages 9 to adult.
