Tree Rings: How a Tree Reveals its History Dendrochronology is the study of tree rings. From such studies, scientists can reconstruct past climate and even date ancient wood artifacts by counting the visible tree rings. Using the attached slice of wood on the front of the card and the facts and instructions on the back, you'll use the investigative skills of a Dendrochronologist to determine the age of the tree and specific events in its life, such as drought, shading from other trees, insect damage and/or disease.
