Seip Head Pipe Description
|
|
This head is a full-scale cast of an original found by H.C. Shetrone of the Ohio Historical Society with burial beneath the large Seip Mound, Ross County, Ohio, in 1927. The burial, a cremation, had been deposited on a low earth platform and then covered with a layer while several ornaments made from copper were beneath the bark. The Seip mound was built by the prehistoric Hopewell Indians sometime between 300 B.C. and A.D. 600.
