Buckeye Battlefields Description

Buckeye Battlefields By Edwin A Kramb
Buckeye Battlefields briefly describes 30 military battles that took place in what is now the state of Ohio. In March of 1803, Ohio became the 17th state of the United States of America. In 2003, Ohio observes its 200th anniversary of statehood. As part of the 200th anniversary, it seems appropriate to remember and celebrate the history of Ohio. The sites of military battle in Ohio deserve special recognition. The hardships endured and the sacrifices made by our forefathers at these locations were truly important contributions to the history of Ohio.
This book is meant to catalog these battlefield sites. It is meant to provide a convenient roster of these historic locations to the casual but interested reader. It does not present great detail of the actions that occurred at these sites, and it does not try to analyze the battles in any great depth. Professional historians can provide superior accounts of the details of each of the conflicts. It seems, however, that on this occasion of its 200th anniversary, a consolidated record of the major battlefields located in the state of Ohio is quite appropriate. A general synopsis or summary account of the combat that took place at these locations seems warranted. It is hoped that this book, Buckeye Battlefields, provides such a condensed account.
