On October 29, 1994, an unprecedented conversation among Ohio's three living former governors took place at the Ohio Historical Center in Columbus. In the historic program, "An Evening with the Governors," James A. Rhodes, John J. Gilligan, and Richard F. Celeste engaged in a wide-ranging discussion of Ohio politics and public policy spanning the nearly three decades they collectively occupied the state's highest office. The discussion, introduced by Governor George Voinovich and moderated by George W. Knepper, professor emeritus of history at the University of Akron, was the capstone of a full day of forums devoted to the state's political institutions and recent political history.
The program was sponsored by the Ohio Historical Society.
