This portrait of Abraham Lincoln and his family was drawn circa 1860-1865 during Lincoln’s first term in office. Lincoln’s second term ended when he was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth on April 14, 1865. The son of a Kentucky frontiersman, Lincoln became the sixteenth president of the United States on the eve of the Civil War. He and his wife Mary had four sons, only one of which lived to adulthood.
